Day 5- Painted Desert

Day 5: Painted Desert

Hello again from the Dopey's!!

Today we woke up at 5:15 in Roswell at the New Mexico Military Institute and said goodbye to the aliens. We didn’t get wet that night from the sprinklers so that was amazing. Our next amazing accomplishment was packing up and getting onto the bus and van in record time today. We had a great breakfast of bagels with cream cheese again today. Then we made our way through New Mexico to Arizona and on the way we stopped at the Petrified Forest and the Painted Desert where we watched people give some presentations. We were told of the bad luck that would occur if we took something from the Petrified Forest (we’ll let you know if we have any bad luck). We also had to give all our kisses to one of the Petrified Forest rocks for tradition and extra good luck. The painted desert was a great preview to our later stop of the Grand Canyon!

The bus ride was quite interesting after everyone woke up from their morning naps. In the van there was a jam session followed by another nap. For lunch we had some pb&j sandwiches with chips and fruit snacks. We stopped to get groceries then Grant descended from a UFO and we picked him up in Flagstaff. Our dinner for tonight was a luxurious meal at McDonalds after getting the groceries. Then we set back out on the road to get to our beautiful campsite for the night the Grand Canyon. We stopped at a lookout to get our first good view of our upcoming hiking destination. There truly are no words to describe the views of the Grand Canyon.

WE WANT ICE CREAM!

Just to let you guys know we have the very best bus driver, Claudius, who has gotten us from one destination to the other. He is so awesome and fun and always wears stylish outfits. Shoutout to him (your kids are in good hands)!! Today the kids actually bought him McDonalds. He definitely is a part of our TWB family already!

Here at the campsite things are getting crazy… some people have been swinging in their hammocks so hard that they broke! Will and Jack swung Abby so hard that she fell but she was okay lol! We also saw some elk and got some good pictures of them. To describe the sunset through the trees would be like trying to describe the Grand Canyon, the colors ranged from deep orange to yellow and ending with the deep purple/black of the night sky. As of writing this, the stars have yet to shine but they have been described to us as better than any night sky you have seen so far on the trip.
