We woke up bright and early this morning at 5:45am. We all packed up our things, rolled up our hammocks and sleeping bags, and headed for the road, brushing the ants off as we went. Most of us continued sleeping on the bus and van. We crossed over into Alabama and set our watches back one hour. After around an hour on the road we made our first stop of the day at Auburn University. After taking a few quick pictures and a quick tour in the bus and van, we made our second Walmart trip of the summer.
The Happys got us an amazing breakfast of Poptarts (not the Great Value ones). After our breakfast on the go, we stopped at a rest stop halfway through Alabama to learn about the state and its history. Our next stop was in Mississippi (spell that two times fast) at another rest stop, before continuing on our way to New Orleans. Kieran and Henry both won prizes for being the first ones to name everyone on the bus. We were served sandwiches, chips, & cookies and played card games such as Uno, War and Blackjack. The van all made friendship bracelets and slept.

Once we arrived in New Orleans, we stopped at the moon walk (not actually on the moon) and learned about Bourbon Street, Café Dumond, Jackson square and the City of New Orleans. After we visited the Saint Louis Cathedral as a group, we split into smaller groups and were allowed to explore. Some groups went and bought t-shirts, while others visited authentic restaurants for their cuisine. Some of us were able to order Beignets from Café Dumond and wave to the cruise ships passing by. Khiara ate FIVE WHOLE BEIGNETS!!

After convening at the bus again, we road across the 23 mile, never-ending bridge while listening to Dixieland Delight by Alabama (not the state). Arriving at the nicest campsite of the trip, we set our dorms up and practiced for the nightly challenge, our own renditions of Dixieland Delight. After practicing for what seemed like hours in the heat, the Happys cooked us an amazing dinner of spaghetti, caesar salad, and garlic bread. After eating and socializing, we then performed our renditions. It was fun to see how creative and different every group was, we had many laughs during the duration of it. Our bus driver, Claudius, truly stole the show when he entered into the competition. The Happys won after the counselors and Claudius voted. After some celebration, we then went our separate ways for showers and to sleep in beds for the first time on the trip! It's an early morning again tomorrow so it's goodnight from the Bashfuls!
