Meet Your Counselors

Teens Westward Bound 2022: TRIP 1!

Hello America, meet your 2022 Trip 1 counselors and directors! We are so excited to learn everything there is to know about you while traveling America this summer. For now, here is a little information about us. We cannot wait to see you on June 11th! Let's go west!!

Grant Deaton- Program Director

HELLO AMERICA! My name is Grant Deaton and this is my 21st year traveling across this amazing country with TWB. I started going out west in 1996 and 1997 as a participant. In 2001, I began traveling as a counselor and became the tour director in 2003. It was such an honor and privilege to take on the role of Program Director in 2016. Words cannot express how excited I am about traveling out west again this summer with such an incredible group of young people. We are going to have a blast!
I have worked as a Marketing teacher for 13 years in North Carolina. I enjoy golfing, mountain biking, backpacking, as well as hanging out with my family and dogs. My wife, Kitch, and I are extremely blessed to have four wonderful little boys in our lives. Connor (10 years old), Brandon (8 years old), Samuel (6 year old) and Grayson (3 years old) bring so much joy to our family. I will miss them so much this summer.

Enjoying every minute of life is so important to me. Going out west every year with the best young people God has to offer is the best way to spend a summer in my mind. I can't wait to see you soon!!

Dallas Godbold Trip Director (TWB 2010 Trip 1)-
Site Managers & Dishwashers

HELLO TWB!!!!! I am SO EXCITED FOR TWB 2022!!!!

I’m Dallas Godbold and I am from TWB Headquarters, Mooresville, NC! I had the amazing opportunity to go on TWB in 2010 and it forever changed my life. This is my sixth summer traveling out west as a staff member. To say I am excited about traveling out west with you all, is definitely an understatement!!!

I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2015 with a degree in Elementary Education! I loved Greensboro so much, I have lived here ever since college.  I am currently a math instructional coach at Washington Montessori Elementary. I support 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade teachers creating lesson plans, modeling lessons, and pulling small groups. Previously, I had taught 4th grade math for 6 years. I am so thankful that being a teacher allows me to travel with YOU!

Some of my favorite things include….ICE CREAM, coffee, and Reese’s! I love spending time with my family. I have 4 siblings, so we are always having fun in the Godbold house!! I am a big fan of all things glitter, sunshine, and positivity! When I am not on TWB in the summer you can find me hanging at the beach or by the pool!

I hope you are ready for a special summer, I promise it will be a summer you will ALWAYS remember! We are going to have 23 days filled with sunshine, happiness, and excitement. See you on June 11th!!!!!!!

Olivia Kafer (TWB 2017 Trip 1) - Cooks

Hey TWB!! My name is Olivia Kafer and I’m very excited to go out west with y’all! I’m from the big city of Roxboro, North Carolina (just kidding, it’s a very small town 30 minutes north of Durham). I got to experience TWB for the first time in 2017 (Trip 1) and I’ve been looking forward to returning as a counselor ever since. I thought I loved America before Teens Westward Bound…then I fell in love with traveling, and now I’ve just graduated from UNC Wilmington with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Travel and Tourism! I also love going to the beach and surfing when I have the chance. Tennis is one of my main hobbies; I played on my high school team for all four years and joined the intramural club team in college. I’m the manager of a local tennis shop in Wilmington, so let me know if any of y’all play tennis and need any equipment or advice! I wish I could bring my rackets across the country, but I don’t think we’d have time to hit the courts.

This trip really is the opportunity of a lifetime and one of the coolest things you could possibly do with your summer. A few words of advice: pack lightly!! You don’t want to have to lug around a ton of stuff, and you’ll need empty luggage space for the souvenirs you pick up along the way. Secondly, do not worry about being without your phone. You’ll have forgotten how to use it by the time we get back. And finally, get ready for the most fun summer of your life!

Brooks Godbold (TWB 2016 Trip 1)
Bus Cleaners & Bus Packers

Hello TWB, I am SO excited to spend the summer with you all!! My name is Brooks Godbold and I am from Mooresville, NC. I got to go out west as a participant in 2016 and I have been California dreamin’ ever since! I know this summer will be an absolute blast and I am counting down the days until we leave Mallard Creek.

I graduated from North Carolina State University in May of 2021 with a degree in Sport Management. GO PACK! After State, I decided to pursue a career in law and I am super excited to begin studying at Elon Law this upcoming fall!

Something to know about me is that I am very competitive and I absolutely love sports, whether it involves playing, coaching, officiating, or simply watching. My favorite teams are the Ravens, Orioles, and of course the NC State Wolfpack! Also in my freetime I love spending time with family, competing in trivia, and watching movies! '

I hope you are all as excited as I am for this summer! It will be the trip of a lifetime!!

Anna Ramsey (TWB 2016 Trip 1) - Bloggers

HEY Y’ALL!! My name is Anna Ramsey and I have been waiting for the day to go out west again since I got off that bus in 2016. I was born and raised in the small town of Bessemer City, NC. I recently graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor’s in Psychology. Don’t worry, I’ll tell y’all about the BEST school and memories I made the past four years! Now, I will be attending Radford University in the fall to pursue a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy.

A few things that I love is to play or watch any kind of sport, spend time with family and friends (especially my little nephew, Luke), play mermaids in the ocean or pool, binge watch my favorite tv shows, and sing & dance even when I am embarrassing myself while doing it.

Not an early bird? It’s okay, me either but the sun rises everyday make it so worth it. Get ready to laugh, cry, sing, dance, and travel across this beautiful country with your new FAMILY! Remember to pack your journal because you’ll want to remember the little things about this new adventure that God is taking you on! See y’all soon… get ready for a summer you’ll never forget!!!

Here’s a little secret: Trip 1 is always the best :)

Staff Weekend

TWB STAFF WEEKEND 2022!!!

In mid May, all of the staff met at the Deaton house to learn all there is to know about TWB. We got a little practice packing light, sleeping in close proximity to each other, and waking up early, so we are prepared for our upcoming 23 day adventure. We covered every important detail about the trip and talked about past TWB trips. After a weekend of talking about everything TWB and getting to know each other, we're all so excited for our trip!
