Day 10- Hollywood and UCLA

Day 10: Hollywood and UCLA

Today we woke up in the Canyon RV Park bright and early.  We packed up quickly and headed toward the Griffith Observatory. We got a breathtaking view of the great Los Angeles. We then boarded the bus for a short ride to Hollywood.  After photographing the Hollywood sign and taking in the fabulous views, we headed towards the Chinese Theatre. There, we looked at the handprints and had quite the surprise. A celebrity was spotted. We saw and got autographs by the world-famous Brooks Godbold. He was “featured” in Top Gun and Stranger Things. After taking plenty of pictures of many of the Hollywood stars' names and hand prints we were free to walk around LA on our own.  Many stopped in shops, tried some local coffee shops, and looked at the famous stars on the ground.

Many went into cheap gift shops while others took advantage of the wide range of upscale clothing stores. A lot of people got souvenirs for their families, so we are all thinking about you… We got things like hats and cute stickers.  Those who decided to get coffee went to the Coffee Bean Cafe, and it was amazing. Everyone loved the Belgium Chocolate iced coffee.  We looked at the Hollywood Stars and found names like Marilyn Monroe, Bob Marley, and Mickey Mouse.

After we left Hollywood, we drove past famous neighborhoods like Bel-lair and Beverly Hills. The scenery was breathtaking. Claudius did an amazing job maneuvering LA traffic and we arrived with ease. We arrived at UCLA where we had a picnic style lunch. We ate chicken caesar wraps, chips, and THE GOOD FROSTED COOKIES! After we ate lunch, we were able to explore the campus and even got a tour from Ainsley’s sister, Olivia (TWB 2016). The campus was so beautiful and there were even some students all across the campus. We then headed back to the campsite but not before we took a good ole Walmart trip. The cooks got more food while the others picked up things that they needed or wanted, including a variety of snacks.

After leaving Walmart we headed to El Capitan Beach. It is definitely the best outside campsite because of the views of the ocean. We had dinner which consisted of world famous hot dogs cooked by Ayden and Gabe with chips, watermelon, and cookies! It was so amazing and it felt good to get some hot food. After dinner we had a little free time to explore the beach and other areas. We then had a heartfelt sing along. We sang a variety of song and “Since you been gone” was such a hit. The smell of the Pacific Ocean air is super inviting, and we are all excited for a nice sleep at El Capitan Beach.

Day 9- Disneyland

Day 9: Disneyland!

We woke up at 6:30 AM this morning. The inviting sound of the highway got us going. We packed up, brushed our teeth, and got on the bus. Claudius, our stunning bus driver, was dressed like a champion. We ate a spectacular meal of cinnamon rolls and apples. We love the Bashful’s. They can stay cooks forever. We got to Disneyland around 8:00 AM. The park was inviting, the shuttle bus drivers were ready, and we quickly made it to the happiest place on earth.

We got our tickets and a heartfelt send off from Dallas, and we were off! The group excitedly walked to the Indiana Jones ride. Disneyland is so cool. The line was fairly short and the atmosphere was awesome. The ride surprised us because it was actually pretty good. It was a fantastic start to the morning. After the first ride, we were all off on our own. We enjoyed the nice California air, the amazing taxes, and the incredibly priced items. Also, the park workers were super nice (and that’s not sarcastic). We got delicious food recommendations and nice conversations. Some people ventured into downtown Disneyland and enjoyed the shops and restaurants. Grace got her leg stuck in line at a ride and had to get help and dawn soap to get it out. It’s okay, you can laugh, she is okay and telling everyone about the unforgettable story lol!

Quickly moving to the park!

Dallas' new dwarf mug

We all made it back by 8:30 PM and made it back to the camp site safely. We were exhausted so we quickly took showers and said our good nights after a long and hot day at Disneyland. Also, Happy Father’s Day! Especially to Charlie, who was told Happy Father’s Day by a worker thinking his group members were his kids.

We want to do a quick shout out to our incredible counselors. They put their hearts and souls into this trip, and they love us so much. Huge thanks to Dallas, Brooks, Olivia, Anna, and Grant!
